Angry Birds Space: NASA announcement
In what has got to be the first time ever a new video game launch was conducted from space, Rovio, the makers of the always popular 'Angry Birds' franchise, was able to get astronaut Don Petit to introduce the next title in the series, 'Angry Birds Space from the international space station. Starting with some cool visuals showing the space station in orbit, astronaut Petit the gives us a basic lesson on 'space physics' and demonstrating how the trajectory of an object flying in space is affected by both weightlessness as well as the orbit around the earth.
With the aid of a stuffed, red, Angry Bird toy, a green balloon and a couple of eggs, Don then slingshots one of our perturbed friends across the space station. Of course all this would just be some good old educational fun but not very memorable unless it were part of the launch of the next title in one of the biggest video game franchises in history. Luckily, we're given an eyeful of gameplay on a Samsung Galaxy Note showing how the game will play. We see several 'screens' of the game with our aggressive fowl flinging across outerspace and colliding with planets, pigs and asteroids. It's just a teaser for what is sure to be the next mega hit for Rovio. Expected to debut on the Galaxy Note within the next few weeks the title will be available on Android and iPad later this month (March 22nd to be exact). That's one small step for bird...one giant leap for pig kind...
